The maritime roots have encouraged several dive schools to locate here and there are numerous dive and snorkelling sites nearby. It is fairly mountainous and gets more rugged as you head east, thus there are a number of trails to climb if you're into walking, waterfalls to visit and the Chinese Temple just outside the village.

Chaloklum beach itself is very long, the village is located in the middle and good value resorts flank either side of the scenic bay. Further east Haad Khom has a small coral reef popular with snorkellers and both good value and high end resorts; the dirt road can be hard to negotiate without a 4WD, but it is easy enough to walk around the coastline or - for an island experience - boat taxis run regularly from the pier in Chaloklum.
